Course Description:
This session will examine the decision making process required to choose the most appropriate functional mobility device - focusing on power mobility. Through the use of research and case studies, participants will learn the importance of a thorough evaluation to determine the most appropriate mobility device for their clients. Specific recommendations for overcoming funding challenges will be shared. Time will also be allotted for audience participation with equipment and discussion.

Participants will state three current perceptions related to prescribing power mobility over manual mobility.
Participants will be able to state three aspects of choosing the most appropriate alternative drive control to match the client’s functional needs.
Participants will compare and contrast the differences between the three main types of drive wheel configurations on power wheelchair bases.
Participants will describe the possible power seat functions available on power wheelchair bases and indications for their use.
Participants will list three benefits to integrating a standing feature into a client’s wheelchair base.
Participants will list two strategies for the documentation and appeals process that will improve the likelihood of obtaining funding for complex rehab equipment.
